Prayer Request
« on: January 05, 2012, 11:04:37 AM »
My father has been in and out of the hospital since May of last year.  He has Chronic Myeloid leukemia.  He keeps going to the Veteran's hospital and they don't know know how to treat his illness.  (Student doctors)  Or rather they aren't treating his illness. They don't have any doctors who specialize in cancer.  But my father can't afford getting treatment somewhere else.  He is currently in the hospital now with trouble breathing.

I just want my father to get the treatment he needs so he won't be hospitalized every month and possibly live the rest of his life as normal as possible.  He gets depressed alot due to the hospitalizations and blood transfusions.

You need to try to find a Veteran's advocate office for advice. There surely must be something in place, or another Vet hospital with personnel who knows how to treat his illness. Is he on any other kind of insurance. Prayers will only do so much; you need to be proactive in seeking advice. See if there is a Veteran's Affairs office in your area and keep after them until you get some answers. Here in Florida we have all kinds of services for Veterans - surely where you are there is something set up for you to call.

Precious, I'll pray for your dad but nitgrit gave you some good advice.
I pray your dad gets the help he needs.

Nitgrit, I am looking into that now.  My father has medicare due to disability. Medicare doesn't cover much.  So I'm trying to convince him to get a supplemental insurance so he can go to a better hospital where they will have specialist.  Financially I can't really help him due to my job cutting my hours to 4 days a week.  But if I need to work a 2nd job to help I will.  I'm also thinking of getting checked to see if I am a match to be a bone marrow donor for him.  We are going to look into other Veteran's hospital and hopefully they have real doctors and not students that will know how to treat his illness.  My father can be very stubborn even when it pertains to his own health so I have to get a little tough with him (convincing him) to seek better care.

Good to hear you are looking into things. Tell your dad to do it for you and the rest of the family if not for himself. Hope it all works out well.

My dad is finally home but has pneumonia, he also has a cough.  Why they released him from the hospital, I have no idea.  But I am waiting for a couple of days (giving him time to feel a little better) before I call the insurance lady.
