I just upgraded my test site and everything went quite smoothly.
Of course the test site had a clean install of the old software so that may make a difference.
It didn't take long at all but that too is because it's a test site with nothing really on it.
The length of time it takes to complete the process depends on how big your site is.

I'm still hoping to do this upgrade tomorrow morning.

Okey dokey
Think of how different it would be if you never met the one person who changed everything.

I'm happy I looked at this site tonight (Saturday) because I would have been unaware.  I bookmarked the sites you listed above.

Thanks for being on top of everything Sheryl.

You're welcome and thanks people for the vote of confidence.

I am about to start the maintenance.
First step is uninstalling some of the add ons which includes the quick reply box.
You can still attempt to read and post messages but I would suggest you copy your message before hitting post, just in case something I've done pauses activity for few seconds or minutes.

Next step is to back up the site, and then I'll be starting the upgrade process.
It's going to take a little while for me to get to this point so if you're here, you can keep reading and posting.
You'll know the upgrade is in process, once you can't open the site but you should also get a message saying there's maintenance going on.

It took less then 5 minutes to upgrade my test site, but there's really nothing on it.
The upgrade process does a second back up of the site which could take a little longer.
Don't forget to bookmark those two sites if things seem to be taking "too long."

I'll try and keep you posted on my progress for as long as possible.

It is now just after 8am. Unless I get some interruptions, or get nervous about doing something, we should be upgraded before the hour is out, but the site won't be down this entire time. Hopefully the down time won't be any longer then 5 minutes.

I'll be back.

I think I've taken care of doing my part to back everything up and uninstall the add ons.
So far things are looking good. At least we're still here.

Now for the scarey part.

It's 8:40am, and I'm off to load updated files and do the upgrade.
Since I'm trying to be very cautious and careful, I might have to catch my breath, lol, before I click "continue," but hopefully I'll still be done by 9am.

Sheryl,
I had no problem getting on this site today. I know it's later in the day, but all turned out perfect. You must be done by now, and worn out.
I love the way it looks, the posting is easier. Only other 2 changes I see are the time we're online is listed and there aren't any emoticon's to use for the messages. But I don't mind, happy as a twinkling whte star in the bright blue sky, over here...lol

I'm glad you think things seem fine, lol.
I only just now "finally" straightened out my administration problem.
No lunch for me today, lol.

Now that I can make changes again, I'm going to try and get things working the way they're suppose to work.
I don't know if everything will get done tonight but I have changed the default standard for messages and activated the WYSIWYG feature.

You should see drop down lists for changing your font stye, size, and color.
If you click one of the options and start typing, your text will appear just as you selected.
I hope that's clear.
Try it and you'll see what I mean.

The smileys are there, but I haven't added my custom smileys.
That may not happen until tomorrow.
If anyone needs any help with how to do something, just ask.
Hopefully I can help you.  ???
